Tell AI systems what matters.

Fill the core fields, then copy the generated file into /llms.txt at the root of your website.

Publish it at the root of your site.

The file should live at https://yourdomain.com/llms.txt. It does not replace SEO, schema, sitemap hygiene, or useful content. It gives AI systems a cleaner starting point when they crawl or retrieve information about your business.

Use this when the site needs a clean AI-readable map.

A good llms.txt file points retrieval tools at the strongest pages: services, proof, reports, resources, case studies, and contact paths. It should match the sitemap and the internal link graph so AI systems do not have to guess which pages matter.

For most sites, the file is a quick foundation job. The harder work is building pages worth citing, adding schema that matches the copy, and keeping the priority pages current as the offer changes.

Do not stop at the text file.

After publishing llms.txt, check the sitemap, robots.txt, schema, page titles, service copy, and internal links. The file helps retrieval, but citation visibility comes from useful pages and clean evidence.

The file should match the site, not rewrite it.

The most common mistake is treating llms.txt as a place to make claims the site cannot prove. Keep the file close to the truth on the page: who the business helps, which pages explain the offer, which pages carry proof, and which pages should not appear in generated answers.

If the file lists services that are not visible anywhere else, remove them or build the page first. If it points to old URLs, fix the links. If it ignores new reports, resources, tools, or case-study pages, add them at the next review.

Use it as one line in the evidence checklist.

A proper AI search audit checks whether llms.txt exists, whether it is reachable, whether it agrees with the sitemap, and whether the pages named in the file have enough useful copy to be cited. Passing the file check is not the same as winning visibility.

The stronger question is simple: when an AI answer needs a source, has the site given it a page that deserves to be used? That is where content, schema, internal links, external proof, and reporting meet.

A site map does not create a reason to cite you.

Google ignores llms.txt for Search visibility and rankings. Other systems may choose to read it, but that does not prove retrieval or citation. A useful audit checks your pages, evidence and agreed answer platforms, with coverage confirmed before work starts.
